Overview of Math Competition

“Mathematics is at the core of human civilization
and is the cornerstone of all
modern science and technology.”

Cornwall College is passionate about mathematics, hence the formation of the Cornwall College Math Club on October 1, 2008.

The Vision of the Club is:
•    To inspire interest in Mathematics and promote the enjoyment of mathematics through competition and cooperative learning.

The Mission of the Club is to:
•    Further the understanding and appreciation of mathematics and its related disciplines.

In order to stimulate further interest in Mathematics and to encourage students and teachers to apply mathematics principles learnt in class, the first Mathematics Fair/Competition at Cornwall College was held on March 31, 2010.

Students, participation and exhibits surpassed our expectations and the exhibition was dubbed:
•    A great learning experience
•    Moving out the box
•    A great success to mention a few of the favourable comments.

In consultation with our Principal, Mr. Denham McIntyre, we believe that the implementation of such an edifying Math programme that unearths students’ creativity while engaging them in competitive and analytical mathematics application should not be enjoyed by students from Cornwall College only.

Students will participate in competitions which include:

•    String Art
•    Escher drawing
•    Tangrams
•    Origami
